Educating experts in Dental Hygiene

As a dental hygienist, you are an expert in oral health care. You promote and maintain oral health, treat and prevent oral and dental diseases, and give guidance. You will be required to have fine motor manual skills and precise vision and perception skills, interaction and presentation skills, planning and creative problem-solving skills.

You can work in health care organizations such as health centers, nursing and service facilities, private dental clinics, or as a private entrepreneur. Collaborating with other health professionals and health promotion agencies is an essential part of your work. There is an increasing number of collaborations with, for example, nursing and social care specialists, speech and occupational therapists and teachers.

The degree programme in Dental Hygiene at Turku University of Applied Sciences is part of the national oral health care education and competence cluster, which means excellent opportunities for multidisciplinary cooperation already during the studies. Cooperation is carried out with local dental assistant, dental technician and dentist education, as well as with the health service organisations in the area.
