Study contents

The extent of the MBA programme is 90 ECTS credits and planned duration 1,5 – 2 years. The studies consists of compulsory and elective studies as well as thesis work.

Each leadership programme within the studies includes common courses in research methods and future operating environments. The remaining compulsory courses delve deeper into the specific aspects of business management. Students can further expand their competencies by selecting elective courses from other programs or universities. The core competencies encompass leadership and change management, strategic thinking and management, project, innovation and network management, as well as financial management. The studies foster the sharing of tacit knowledge within diverse groups, and the connections formed with fellow students can be highly beneficial in the future.

A significant component of the studies is the Master’s thesis. The thesis work begins early in the programme and is conducted as a project-oriented development endeavour aligned with real-life work scenarios. The thesis not only enhances students’ knowledge and skills in a specific field of study but also provides an opportunity to develop leadership abilities in leading teams and workgroups.

What is UAS Master’s degree?

The UAS Masters degree is intended for professionals already in working life who have an applicable bachelor’s degree or other higher education degree and at least two years of work experience after graduation. A master’s degree is typically completed in 1.5–2 years alongside work. The UAS master’s degree is on the same level as a university master’s degree.

How does studying in path studies differ from degree studies?

In the joint application process, applicants apply to study for a degree. In path studies, studies begin at the Open UAS with the open UAS’s study right.

Open UAS path studies are an alternative route to a degree. Through the path studies, you can start studying studies included in the degree. Path studies consist of the first-year studies (60 ECTS) of the Bachelor’s degree, which you complete alongside degree students. The actual studies or the contents of the studies do not differ from degree studies.

You cannot complete a degree as a path student. Based on the credits you attain and your success in path studies, you can apply for a degree study right via Open UAS separate application and continue your studies seamlessly until graduation.

Path studies are subject to a fee. There is also a difference in the benefits of a path student compared to degree students.

Apart from online study programmes, path studies require attendance in Turku, Finland. Please note that as path studies do not lead to a degree, Finnish immigration services are not likely to grant a residence permit for path studies.
