Our Baltic Sea
The Baltic Sea is one of the most fragile and polluted marine areas, particularly affected by eutrophication and climate change. Invasive species and increasing maritime traffic also pose a threat to the biodiversity and security of the sea area. The Baltic Sea is also a key connecting factor and environment for the countries, businesses and people who operate around it.
We work multidisciplinarily for a better future for the Baltic Sea Region.
Our Baltic Sea is one of our four strategic themes.
Key research areas
Monitoring the status of water bodies
Reducing nutrient pollution
Urban water management
Safeguarding marine biodiversity
Safe autonomous maritime transport
Utilisation of reed
We produce high-quality, applied research data on the state of the Baltic Sea serving decision making.
