The VIREO research project comprises two significant components that merit attention.
The Vireo research project investigates the suitability of XR technologies for remote use and job guidance. XR technologies are broadly understood from virtual and augmented/mixed reality to metaverse technologies. The subject of the research is technical and usability requirements and technology demonstrations, where the applicability of technologies is evaluated from usability and user experience points of view. The project’s technology demonstrations are developed based on the expectations of the companies that joined the project. The technology demonstrations aim to seek, together with companies, a better understanding of the application possibilities of XR technologies with their benefits and limitations.
The second component centers around remote diagnostics and model-based control of battery-powered systems. The VIREO project aims to develop model-based methods for diagnosing battery health issues caused by aging and slow wear. The investigation also aims to predict battery thermal runaway conditions through model-based approaches. The optimization algorithms developed through remote diagnostics will refine control policies for battery-powered devices, addressing factors such as maximum load and minimizing aging, and create control algorithms to prevent thermal runaway conditions and ensure operational safety through remote diagnostics. Developing expert systems for fleet management, and utilizing model-based methods to optimize battery usage across a broader battery population, is also a part of this component. Lastly, plan to implement a practical demonstration showcasing the developed models and algorithms in real-world scenarios, emphasizing remote diagnostics and control of battery systems within the TUAS’ ModelConductor eXtend (MCX) environment.
