The eMedication Passport – cultural adaptation of learning tool for ensuring the development of medication competence of graduate nurses (eMED-PASS)

We help develop the medication competence of graduate nurses

The Medication Passport is one solution to create common quality standards for medication competence and enhance safety of the care. It helps higher education institutions (HEI) to develop their nursing curriculum by disclosing the common deficiencies in students’ medication competences.

In Finland, Turku University of Applied Sciences has developed the learning tool for supporting and ensuring the development of the required medication competence of nurse graduates. An innovative tool called “Medication Passport” was developed in national collaboration and was taken to use in 2010 first in a paper version in all Finnish universities of applied sciences and later in 2012 as an electronic version (eMedication Passport). In this project, culturally modified Baltic eMedication Passports will be created and tested.

The ultimate goal of the eMed-PASS project is to improve the quality and relevance of higher education in bachelor level nurse education cross-borders in EU countries.

Objectives

The aim of this project is to increase patient and medication safety in partner countries by developing the educational preparation of nurses.

The purposes of the project are to

a) implement and evaluate culturally adapted eMedication Passports for ensuring the medication competence of the graduating nurses in the Baltic countries;

b) create a model for adaption of culturally sensitive learning tool;

c) create a protocol for implementation of a method ensuring medication competence development in countries regulated by the EU.
