NonHazCity3

We reduce the chemical load in building materials
Rakennustyömaa

In the international NonHazCity3 project, we focus on harmful substances in building materials and construction sites and on reducing the chemical load of the environment caused by them. In the project, we combine the perspectives of reducing harmful substances, combating climate change and circular economy in construction and renovation projects. We also take into account economy.

Our goal is to increase knowledge about harmful substances in building materials and how to avoid them. We want to reduce the burden of chemicals in homes and workplaces in order to increase well-being. We investigate and reduce the transfer of harmful substances from construction materials to the environment, especially to the Baltic Sea and other water bodies.

We develop and improve existing strategic and practical solutions to reduce the harmful material load caused by construction and construction materials for municipalities, companies and private individuals. The solutions we have developed are being tested through various pilot projects.

These pilot projects will focus on:

  • develop public procurement processes related to construction in order to reduce harmful substances
  • to design and construct climate-neutral and circular buildings with less harmful substances
  • provide target groups with information and tools related to pollution-free, climate-neutral and circular-economy construction and renovation.
