’NewWoW Crafting – New Ways of Working by Crafting Mobile and Multi-Locational Work’ is a project that focuses on mobile and multi-locational work which are becoming increasingly common. We know for a fact that the volume of this type of work will increase, and we also know that this will offer many advantages and opportunities for discovering new, more diverse ways of working if we can just find innovative and sustainable ways of applying them. Although this type of working has been studied before, actual development procedures have been relatively scarce.

The aim of the NewWoW project is to offer information and insight on how people working in a mobile and multi-locational manner craft – within the regulatory limits – their working time, work habits and the various workspaces they use. Furthermore, the project uses the observations made during the study as guidelines and material for supporting employees on both a direct, individual level and indirectly through the organizations they represent. The target group of the project is particularly the personnel of microenterprises as well as small and medium-sized enterprises, as they have the greatest potential not only to achieve the benefits of mobile work on a personal level in a healthy and safe manner but also to significantly influence the efficiency in which the workforce is utilized on a national level.

The aims of the project

  • to study the working time and workspace management practices of crafted by employees involved in multi-locational work in order to balance their own resources with the demands of the job, thereby improving the well-being of the employees and the productivity of their work,
  • to identify the shared and distinctive features of different industries in relation to the aforementioned matters, so that they can be utilized in the development of the different industries participating in the project,
  • to develop and experiment cooperative methods by using modern approaches to crafting work and produce related coaching materials and procedures, and
  • to develop a policy for occupational health care cooperation in mobile and multi-locational work as well as supporting practices and coaching materials to be utilized by occupational health care systems, small and medium-sized enterprises, occupational safety and health practices, occupational well-being systems as well as experts and supporting parties of entrepreneurship.

Results

  • New practices for identifying the factors influencing the well-being and productivity in mobile and multi-locational work and promoting those factors in micro, small and medium-sized enterprises
  • Coaching material and practices to promote work management in mobile and multi-locality work
  • A policy following the practices of good occupational health cooperation for mobile and multi-locational work in micro, small and medium-sized enterprises
  • Practical tools and coaching material packages for occupational health cooperation regarding mobile and multi-locational work in micro, small and medium-sized enterprises.
