Kira Circularis is a national project to promote the transition of the construction industry to a circular economy.
The project examines side and surplus materials obtained from companies, as well as their volumes and possibilities for further use, as such or processed. The aim is to find new uses, considering all legislation related to recycling and construction, as well as the environmental and cost impacts of operations.
Materials are researched, manufactured and tested according to the required regulations and, if necessary, further development projects or studies are presented to bring new recycled materials to market.
The aim of the project is to improve the know-how and knowledge of construction companies in the green transition and to create a pathway for companies to a product development partnership. Companies that otherwise lack the expertise and resources for product development and testing will have access to the expertise, technical resources and platforms of six universities of applied sciences.
The aim is also to create and pilot an innovation process based on co-creation, in which small and medium-sized enterprises also can develop their idea into a functional product or service and the network it requires.
Material cycle
We aim to help SMEs meet the challenges of the green transition and to speed up the material cycle of companies. The goal is to find users for unutilized side streams, and to help companies in product development.

Acoustics
Some recycled materials and biomaterials that end up in waste or incineration can be used to make sound absorbing or sound insulating products. The project is intended to help companies develop such products. The research is implemented in the acoustics laboratory and its staff. There are a dozen companies involved.
