Total funding
The Practice-based Pedagogy research group is involved in the KAPPAS2 project funded by the Ministry of Education and Culture. The research test teams are composed of the Project Workshop and Capstone modules of the Technology and Business Sector.
The KAPPAS2 project studies the generic skills of Finnish university and polytechnic students and their development during higher education. The aim is to determine the level of generic skills of higher education students and to examine in particular which factors are related to the level of generic skills of students and to what extent generic skills develop during higher education studies.
The generic skills studied in the project are analytical reasoning and evaluation, problem solving, argumentative writing and language management. The Collegiate Learning Assessment CLA+ International, the generic skills instrument used in the project, was developed by the US-based Council for Aid to Education (CAE). The project will use two survey designs: cross-sectional and longitudinal. The target groups are undergraduate and postgraduate students. The computer-based testing will be carried out in autumn 2023-autumn 2025, and the results will be reported in late 2025.
There are 5 universities and 13 universities of applied sciences. The KAPPAS2 project is implemented in cooperation between the Institute for Educational Research of the University of Jyväskylä and the University of Helsinki’s Centre for University Pedagogy. The KAPPAS2 project, funded by the Ministry of Education and Culture, is a continuation of the University of Jyväskylä and the University of Helsinki’s 2018-2020 KAPPAS! project.
KAPPAS2 provides higher education institutions with important information on students’ skills to support the development of teaching and education. Students participating in the survey will gain information about their own generic skills.
