Getting Unstuck

We develop methods and skills for multicultural artistic work

“Getting unstuck” arises from a deep trust in the relevance of Art as a tool for social change, in particular the use of drama for inclusion. Being involved in a creative process enables vulnerable people to boost their capacity of action, helps to build resilience and a sense of belonging, and encourages empowerment of individuals.

The project strives the achievement of three objectives: 1) Strengthening the capacity of the partners’ staff and associated artists 2) Creating new inclusive hospitality and solidarity models through art and 3) Contributing to the intercultural dialogue by the regeneration of the narratives on migration and on the renewal of a plural and inclusive European identity.

The project is based on proven experiences of a group of partners from the fields of pedagogy, social work, culture and theatre. The French lead partner is La Renaissance, a multidisciplinary place of venue located in Normandie; Comedia Theater Köln is an independent German Theatre for young audiences and a production house; the Arts Academy of Turku University of Applied Sciences from Finland and Innocamp PL, a Polish private company specialised in pedagogical interests for drama. They have all implemented artistic projects involving young people and migrants, in collaboration with academics and social workers.
In Turku UAS the project activities include documentary theater for immigrant youth in drama clubs orgnised by Performing Arts education staff and students and a theater production which is open for public.

All the partners build up a creative group including migrants. Led by a commissioned artist, the group will research in different communities to collect statements concerning their vision of Europe. The collected material will be included in the performance and all will be shared between the different partners. Four bodies of artistic works will be produced inside project activities in all partner countries: individual performance productions which are all based on the collected materials. The creative process starts in January 2021 and ends with the premiere of the local artistic production.
