Finnish higher education and Turku University of Applied Sciences attracts interest in Brazil

The Rectors’ Forum: Brazil-Finland event, hosted by Turku University of Applied Sciences, brought together a group of Brazilian higher education leaders and other guests from the education sector.

– Brazil’s growing higher education sector brings significant new opportunities for Finnish partners in building research, development and innovation cooperation. Many Finnish higher education institutions have been working well with Brazilian organisations for years and now we are trying to take this to a new level,” says Vesa Taatila, Rector and President of Turku University of Applied Sciences.

The guests were welcomed to Finland by Kaisu-Maria Piiroinen, Education Counsellor at the Ministry of Education and Culture.

The event was also attended by Professor Emmanuel Tourinho, President of the GCUB, and Rossana Silva, Executive Director of the organisation. On the opening day, Vesa Taatila, Rector and President of Turku University of Applied Sciences, and Jukka Kola, Rector of the University of Turku, gave keynote speeches on the Finnish innovation system and research.

The Brazilian guests were presented, among other things, the opportunities for bilateral cooperation offered by Finland’s education and research and innovation system. Similarly, Brazilian experts spoke about the needs and strategic objectives of a rapidly growing country.

The programme also included a visit to the Kupittaa campus, learning environments and laboratories of Turku University of Applied Sciences. After Turku, the guests continued to Helsinki to visit Metropolia University of Applied Sciences and the University of Helsinki.
