Guidelines for Open UAS Higher Education Diplomas and Expert Training Modules
Welcome to study at Turku University of Applied Sciences! It’s great to have you as part of our community. On this page, you will find instructions for getting started with your Open UAS studies.

- an Open UAS higher education diploma, or
- an Open UAS expert training module.

Before starting your studies

Register your Turku UAS user ID
Please register your user ID before starting your studies by authenticating yourself on the ID Service.
Your username, student number and email address will be displayed at the end of the registration process. Please be sure to save these for later use.
Turku UAS user IDs require multi-factor authentication (MFA). Please set up MFA after activating your user ID.
More information on registering your user ID:
- The ID service requires authentication with Finnish online banking credentials or mobile certificate, or a foreigners’ identifier. Read more on registering your user ID.
- You can only register your user ID once your Open UAS study right is valid. The study right will be valid a few working days after you have been granted a study right.
- If the registeration is not successful immediately, try again later. If you still can’t activate your user ID as instructed, please contact IT Services: servicedesk@turkuamk.fi

Pay the Open UAS study fee by the due date
If you participate in studies subject to a study fee, you will receive payment instructions at the start of your studies. Payment of the Open UAS study fee is required for participation in the studies.

See the starting instructions for your studies and the Open UAS start pack
Before starting your studies, you will receive an email from the contact person of your studies with more detailed starting instructions, including starting date and timetable.
Once you have registered your Turku UAS user ID, you can have a look at the Open UAS start pack course on itsLearning. With the Open UAS strat pack, you will get acquainted with studying at Turku UAS before you start your studies. You will learn how we study, what tools we use and where you can get support.
Here’s how to access the Open UAS start pack:
- Log in to itsLearning learning environment
- Select ‘Login with HAKA’ and use the Turku UAS user ID you received during registration.
- Select ‘Courses’ in the home screen, then ‘Open UAS start pack′. Follow the instructions to proceed with the course.
- If you don’t see the start pack on the itsLearning frontpage after you’ve registered your Turku UAS user ID, please try again the next day. If the course doesn’t appear within a couple of days, please contact Open UAS.

Download the Tuudo mobile app
Tuudo is an app that makes students’ everyday lives easier by bringing together the information and services they need from different channels. Tuudo also includes a free Open UAS student card.
You can download the free Tuudo mobile app on your phone as soon as you have received information about your study place at Turku UAS.
- Select Turku University of Applied Sciences from the Tuudo menu and press the New Student button to access without logging in.
- Once you have activated your Turku UAS user IDs, you can use them to log in to Tuudo and access all functions.
On Tuudo you will find, among other things:
- campus maps and current news for students
- free student card for Open UAS students, which gives you a small discount on lunch at student restaurants on our Turku campuses (requires login)
- your timetable and progress of your studies (requires login)
- booking of rooms on campus for studying (requires login)

If necessary: get your own computer for studying
Turku University of Applied Sciences uses electronic materials and learning environments. You must have your own laptop computer available during the study days. The school will provide you with the most important basic software free of charge.
Starting your studies
When do studies start?
You will receive the starting instructions for your studies by email from the contact person of your studies. The instructions include detailed info about the start of your studies and timetables.
If you have not received the starting instructions by e-mail, please contact the Open UAS.
If you have any questions about the implementation of your studies, please get in touch with your contact person.
You can find their contact details in the starting instructions you receive by email or on the website of your studies.
Arriving on campus
How do I find my way to campus? See the information on the campus opening hours, parking and transport connections on the campus pages.
How do I find the right auditorium or classroom on campus? You can find the exact location of the rooms in the Tuudo app. Select “Map” from the app menu.
We recommend using public transport when arriving on campus. However, if you arrive by car, please note that parking spaces near Kupittaa and Linnankatu campuses are limited and are usually subject to a fee.
Timetable
In the timetable you can see the first weeks of your studies, and later the contact teaching schedule for the whole semester. If there are any changes, you should always check the timetable before class.
You can find your timetable at lukkari.turkuamk.fi
- You can see your own timetable by selecting “Search groups” and entering your group ID (e.g. OSRATYK24) in the field. You can find your group ID in the starting instructions of your training.
The timetable and the starting instructions have different times for the start of studies. Which is correct?
For example, if the starting instructions say that your contact lesson starts at 9.00, but the timetable says 8.00, you should follow the time mentioned in the instructions.
The timetable shows the classroom bookings and the earlier entry in the timetable means that the teacher has marked the booking to start earlier.

Higher education diploma or certificate of expert training
A diploma is awarded on completion of an Open UAS higher education diploma studies. A certificate is awarded on completion of Open UAS expert training.
With an electronically signed diploma or certificate, you can demonstrate the skills you have acquired to an employer, for example. You do not have to apply for a certificate or diploma of Open UAS studies – you can also view your completed studies on the national My Studyinfo service.
How do I apply for a certificate or diploma?
When you have completed all the courses included in the higher education diploma studies (minimum 60 credits) or in the expert training studies (minimum 30 credits), you can apply for a diploma or certificate using the form below:
Please note that all studies included in the training must be completed and assessed on Peppi when you fill in the form. The studies you have completed will be checked before a diploma or certificate is awarded.
We will send the diploma or certificate to the email address you filled in for your application within two weeks. During the summer and in December, the delivery time is longer.
The email you receive will include a link to download an electronic diploma or certificate. The link is valid for two weeks. Remember to check the spam or trash folders on your email inbox.
Please contact Open UAS (avoinamk@turkuamk.fi), if
- you haven’t received the document after two weeks
- you suspect that you wrote an incorrect email address on your application
- the download link got out of date
What if I lost my higher education diploma?
If you lose your diploma or certificate, you can request a new electronic copy from the Open UAS: avoinamk@turkuamk.fi.
Extension time for studies
If you have not completed your higher education diploma or expert training in time, you can apply for an extension of your study right for one consecutive semester.
In order to be granted an extension period, it is necessary to be able to complete the missing studies in the coming semester. You should therefore discuss the extension of your studies with the teacher responsible for your studies and, if necessary, with your study guidance counsellor.
You can apply for an extension of one semester after an uninterrupted period of study. To apply for an extension, contact the Open UAS by email (avoinamk@turkuamk.fi) after you have agreed on the completion of the missing studies with the teacher responsible for the training.
Discontinuing your studies
If life takes you by surprise and you are unable to complete your studies, you can withdraw from higher education diploma or expert training studies by filling in a cancellation form. The form is the only way to withdraw from your studies. See the instructions for more details:
Benefits for higher education diploma and expert training students
When you participate in higher education diploma or expert training studies at Turku University of Applied Sciences, you are studying with an Open University of Applied Sciences study right, and are therefore not entitled to most student benefits or study grants.
We offer you the following benefits and services:
- CampusSport sports services at student prices
- Get a small discount at student restaurants on our Turku campuses with your Open UAS student card from the Tuudo mobile app
- You can become a Student Union TUO member and order a green student card
- You can use the library services of Turku University of Applied Sciences

CampusSport services are available to all Turku UAS’ Open UAS students, whether you are enrolled on an individual course or path studies. As an Open UAS student, you can use all CampusSport services at student prices.
