Can I postpone the start of my studies?
If you have been accepted as a degree student, you can postpone the start of your studies by registering as non-attending. As a first-year degree student you can only do this for a statutory reason.
What is the healthcare fee for degree students?
Degree students at universities of applied sciences and universities pay a health care fee to Kela. As a degree student at a higher education institution, you can use the services of the Finnish Student Health Service (FSHS).
Find out more about FSHS services
The student healthcare fee is part of the overall funding for healthcare for university students. You have to pay this fee even if you do not receive student financial aid form Kela, use occupational health services instead of the FSHS, or have taken a private health insurance to satisfy the requirements for obtaining a residence permit, for example.
Read more about the health care fee
If you have social security coverage from another EU or EEA country, Switzerland or Great Britain and Northern Ireland, you do not have to pay the healthcare fee. However, you can use the services of the FSHS. Find out what you need to do on the Kela website.
Payment of the healthcare fee
The healthcare fee must be paid for each semester. Kela does not send a separate invoice for the fee, but you must remember to pay it yourself.
The due date for the healthcare contribution depends on when you register as attending.
See Kela’s website for more detailed payment instructions and due dates.
I completed open UAS studies at Turku UAS
If you completed path studies or another applicable studies at Turku UAS, please read and follow the instructions below before starting your degree studies.
New student ID number and reactivating Turku UAS user ID
Your student ID number will change when you continue your studies as a degree student. You can see your new student ID number in Peppi by clicking on your name in the top right-hand corner of the home page.
Your user ID for Turku UAS systems will remain the same. However, you will need to reactivate your user ID when your degree study right starts:
- Register your user ID at https://id.turkuamk.fi
- Activate multi-factor authentication (MFA) after re-registration. Read the instructions.
Note: When your study right is about to change from Open UAS student to degree student, you will receive an automatic message about the expiry of your Open UAS user ID. There is no need to react to this message and your data will not be lost when you reactivate your user account according to the instructions above.
If you have problems activating your user ID or MFA, or if you do not have a Finnish ID or online banking credentials, please contact IT Services.
Data preservation
In principle, all the data you have stored in the various Turku UAS information systems will remain unchanged when you change from a path student to a degree student and reactivate your user ID at the latest at the start of your degree study right. For example, the contents of your email inbox or OneDrive folders will not be lost. The folders of the e-learning platforms of the courses you have completed with your Open UAS student number will also be saved.
However, we recommend that you keep important data and files to yourself. Even in incomplete implementations, lost folders cannot be recovered in itsLearning. In principle, data in e-learning environments will be lost within 31 days after the open UAS study right has ended.
Continuation of studies and credits
Continuation of studies
Your studies will continue as a degree student, usually in the same group as a Open UAS path student.
The group code and tutor teacher remain the same. For the upcoming courses in the semester, you will enroll with your new student number in Peppi.
If you have any questions about the group or the planning of your ISP, you should contact study guidance counsellor before the start of your degree studies.
For questions related to study rights, study documents and other study administration, students can contact the Student Services Office.
Note: If you have applied for and received a place to study in a different degree programme than your path studies or you have completed other than path studies at Turku UAS, please contact study guidance counsellor in advance. It may not be possible to continue your studies seamlessly. Your degree studies may therefore start in the first academic year.
Unfinished or ongoing courses
If you have unfinished or ongoing implementations (courses), you can ask the Student Office to transfer you to them with your new student ID number.

Please note that we accredit your open UAS studies during the semester. They will not be immediately transferred to the new degree student ID number.

Your new role will be visible in Tuudo about a week after you start your degree studies and you’ll be able to use the degree student’s card in Tuudo.

2
Contact the study guidance counsellor for information on starting the studies
Contact your study guidance counsellor in advance to discuss the start of your studies and the planning of your studies in more detail. The prior studies you have completed affect which degree study group and year of studies you will placed in.
See the contact details of the study guidance counsellor fo your degree programme
To have your studies accredited, you will need a final transcript of records in Finnish and English of your previous higher education studies, as well as a description of the courses you have taken.
Your individual study plan is prepared in accordance with the Turku UAS curriculum. Please note that the curriculum of Turku UAS may differ significantly from the studies you have completed at the other higher education institution. Therefore, it may not be possible to continue your studies seamlessly and your degree studies may start in the first academic year.
3
If necessary: get your own computer for studying
Turku UAS uses digital materials and learning environments. You must have your own laptop computer available during the study days. The school will provide you with the most important basic software free of charge.
4
Take the Digistart course
With the Digistart course, you will get acquainted with studying at Turku UAS even before you start your studies. You will learn how we study, what tools we use and where you can get support.
The autumn DigiStart course will open on 1 August and the spring course on 1 January. You can participate in the course after you have activated your user ID.
It’s worth starting the course right away when possible: once you know the common practices and how to work in different environments, you’re ready to start the actual studies!
Here’s how to get on the course:
- Log in to the itsLearning learning environment
- Select ‘Login with HAKA’ and use the Turku UAS user ID you received during registration.
- Select ‘Courses’ in the home screen, then select the course for the semester, e.g. ‘DigiStart, Spring 2025′. Follow the instructions to proceed with the course. The Digistart course is available in Finnish and English. The language of the course depends on the teaching language of the degree programme.
- If you don’t see the Digistart course in itsLearning frontpage, you can also join the course yourself. In itsLearning, select Courses > All courses > Find more courses > Site course catalogue and join the Digistart course.
If you need help with Digistart, please contact digistartti@turkuamk.fi
The Digistart course is a comprehensive package of information that you don’t have to learn all at once. You can return to the course at any time during your studies to find the information you need.
5
Download the Tuudo mobile app
Tuudo is an app that makes students’ everyday lives easier by bringing together the information and services they need from different channels. Tuudo also includes a free student card.
You can download the free Tuudo mobile app on your phone as soon as you have received information about your study place at Turku UAS.
- Select Turku University of Applied Sciences from the Tuudo menu and press the New Student button to access without logging in.
- Once you have activated your Turku UAS user ID, you can use them to log in to Tuudo and access all functions.
On Tuudo you will find, among other things:
- campus maps and current news for students
- free student card for degree students (requires login)
- your timetable and progress of your studies (requires login)
- booking of rooms on campus for studying (requires login)
Arriving on campus
How do I find my way to campus? See the information on the campus opening hours, parking and transport connections on the campus pages.
How do I find the right auditorium or classroom on campus? You can find the exact location of the rooms in the Tuudo app. Select “Map” from the app menu.
We recommend using public transport when arriving on campus. However, if you arrive by car, please note that parking spaces near Kupittaa and Linnankatu campuses are limited and are usually subject to a fee.
Timetables
In the timetable you can see the preliminary schedule for the semester. If there are any changes, you should always check the timetable before class.
The preliminary timetables for the spring semester 2025 will be published no later than 2 December 2024.
You can find the timetables at lukkari.turkuamk.fi
- You can see your chapter order by selecting “Search groups” and entering your group ID (e.g. PINFOK24A) in the field. You can find your group ID in the starting instruction of your degree programme.
The timetable and the starting instructions have different times for the start of studies. Which is correct?
For example, if the starting instructions say that your orientation days start at 9.00, but the timetable says 8.00, you should follow the time mentioned in the instructions.
The timetable shows the classroom bookings and the earlier entry in the timetable means that the teacher has marked the booking to start earlier.
