Our story
Turku University of Applied Sciences was founded in 1992, when the temporary Technical University of Applied
Sciences of Turku started its activities. But our story began 200 years ago.
All four of our fields (arts, business, health and technology) have their roots in the 19th century, when the country’s first midwifery programme and, trade school and Turku’s drawing school were founded. In the 1990s, the range of education and training became multidisciplinary and was consolidated. The first universities of applied sciences started operating in Finland in the 1990s.
Today, we are one of the largest universities of applied sciences in Finland. Our community includes more than 12, 000 students and around 800 experts. We offer hundreds of courses in different fields and conduct practical research. Our campuses are located in Turku and Salo.
